Diamond education is essential to understand the characteristics and quality aspects of diamonds. Through our Diamond education page, we aim to demystify these concepts and explain their influence on buying decisions, with the help of informative articles, guides and videos.
To assure diamond buyers about the authenticity of their purchase, leading gemological laboratories in the world provide a diamond grading report or diamond certificate for every diamond. A diamond certificate provides proof that the diamond was graded with an expert opinion on its quality, and enables non-expert buyers to make informed decisions. All the diamonds we source at DiamondXE are certified by one or more of the following internationally acclaimed laboratories that follow universally recognized diamond grading standards.

The Gemological Institute of America is a non-profit institute that has an international authority on diamonds and gemstones. GIA was founded in 1931, and in the 1940s established the 4Cs (Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight) or the “International Diamond Grading System.” The GIA is arguably the leading source of knowledge for all gemstones and jewellery. Their Diamond Grading Report includes an assessment of the 4Cs with a plotted diagram of the diamond’s clarity characteristics and a graphic representation of its proportions. GIA certified diamonds have multiple security features on their grading reports, that also ensure the report’s authenticity.

The International Gemological Institute was set up in 1975 in Antwerp, the diamond capital of the world. One of the leading gemological institutions in the world, the IGl has developed into the largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute recognized for its quality services, extensive experience and know-how. IGI Diamond Reports give an accurate assessment of a diamond's cut, color, clarity and carat weight according to strict international standards. IGI pioneered the grading standards for “Hearts & Arrows” diamonds and is the preferred authority for Hearts & Arrows diamonds certification.

HRD Antwerp was established in 1973 and is Europe’s leading authority in diamond certification. Headquartered in the heart of the world’s oldest diamond hub – Antwerp, HRD has company owned laboratories in Dubai and Mumbai. The HRD Diamond Grading Report is an objective report that confirms a diamond’s authenticity and provides a detailed description of its key characteristics, the so-called 4Cs. Besides Grading Reports for Natural diamonds and Laboratory Grown diamonds, HRD also provides comprehensive reports for Natural diamond color grading and Natural diamond identification.

EGL was established in 1974 and claims to be the largest independent network of gemological laboratories. In addition to the European network, EGL certificates are also issued by countries in other regions; EGL India, EGL South Africa, EGL Platinum (Israel) and EGL USA. The EGL diamond grading report is a thorough quality analysis of a diamond. The advantages of a vast network are that EGL grading reports are available at lower rates and with faster turnaround.

The American Gem Society started in 1943 with a commitment to provide educational products that inform and protect diamond and jewellery consumers. While the GIA is the industry’s leading diamond lab, the AGS is not far behind. Like GIA, AGS is also a non-profit organization. AGS stands out amongst other diamond grading systems because they use a 0 to 10 grading scale, with 0 as the highest grade and 10 as the lowest. Its conservative and unbiased approach to diamond grading has made the AGS one of the world's most respected gemological laboratories. Thus, an AGS certificate guarantees an accurate analysis and evaluation of a diamond.
